- June 30. [1961]
Hiked the 5 miles to Alliford with
the Land Rover hub + left Mike [Bigg] to
skin marten + [male symbol] hairy woodpecker. Boated
over to Q.C. [Queen Charlotte] City where Joe Mara
welded new bolts on. Back to All-
iford + on to Landrover by boat. Put
back together. Into Sandspit. Ano-
ther marten in Copper R. [River] traps.
In evening Drove down to Deana
finding 2 more marten in traps. Saw
Otter again but couldn't shoot. Walked
bank of river to bridge but couldn't
find any slides. Excellent fishing by
Deana in gravel bank area but lots
of no-see-ums. Camped at Deana
July 1. [1961]
Picked up traps + 1 more marten.
Drizzle. Buisily [Busily] skinning marten in
morning. Took Mike [Bigg] over to Charlotte
for days festivities then drove to
airport to meet Anna. With Anna [Annelise Urhahn]
drove to Copper Bay + found no marten
in traps. Swim in warm water of
advancing tide over not sand.
Joined [Atholl] Sutherland-Brown, Mike [Bigg], etc. [etcetera]
in Charlotte, moving to Skidegate
Dance where saw all our Charlotte
friends spruced up so as to be
practically unrecognizable. Back to
Alliford by 2:00.
Note: saw beaver cullings in
Deana River; Coons [Raccoons] definitely on
North Moresby (tracks, Chuck's skins).
July 2
Moved [word crossed out] Organized + packed on
a sunny day. Moved down to
Aero for night. Camp deserted.
