Jasper, Alta. [Alberta] April 17/43 [1943].
Frank Wells reports finding several
dead elk swarming with ticks
He blamed these for the deaths but
investigated no further.
Devona, Alta. [Alberta] April 18/43 [1943].
Examined adult bull kill on hill about
1/2 mile west of cabin. Animal not senile -
no sign of a fight or struggle.
Food Stomach contents 100% grass.
Devona to Jasper. April 19/43 [1943]
Saw 5 elk near the Devona cabin
that had not been counted before
and 46 more elk nearer Snaring -
some or all of these may have already
been tallied.
Miette River to Yellowhead Pass. April 20/43 [1943]
Some good sidehill elk range on
north side of river for 4 miles or
so then poorer range adjacent to
the river until the Decoigne area
which is first class elk Range. Near
town there is considerable elk
sign on the Aspen but from
4 miles on to Decoigne chaws
+ highlining area noticeably absent
Instead moose breakdown is noticeable
Along the river there is heavy
