Ashnola Forks
May 30, 1952.
Arrived here this evening from
Vancouver. Party consists of Mrs N.A.M.
Mackenzie, Mr + Mrs Herb. Clark + self. We
were the first people in on the road
but very little work was required to
clear it. About 1/2 hr [hour] with shovels +
crowbar did the trick. Cabin shipshape
except for Packrats under the floor

Climbed to Starvation Flats, then to
Juniper slope + from there by way of Joe
Lake trail to top of "Samanno Nemesis"
Returned across Lookout slope + South
slope then across river + down
W [West] side trail. Highest altitude 7050'.
Top of S. [South] slope 6500'.
Saw Deer
18 ad [adult] [male symbol] 2 spike [male symbol] 23 ad [adult] [female symbol] 5 yng [young] [female symbol] 27 unaged unsexed
Sheep.
Rams. ad [adults] 7; 5 yrs. [years] 2; 4 yrs. [years] 3; 3 yrs [years] - 3; 2 yrs [years] 6. yrl. [yearling] 1.
Ewes. ad [adults] 9; 12 long yearlings = 2 yr [year] olds. 2 yrls. [yearlings]
16 in 2 groups on Crater Mt. [Mountain]
Marmota flaviventris very abundant. Saw
perhaps 30-40. This only 1 year after our coyote
program. Citellus not noticeable more
abundant than last year.
