Princeton B.
May 6/50. [1950]
Left Vancouver at 2:30, arrived
Princeton at 9 in evening after
an easy trip A great deal of snow
along the road.
May 7/50. [1950] Princeton
With Gill worked west along
road 9 miles west + examined area
of [Ernest] Willis' 9 mile ranch lot 102.
Ernest Willis owner spoke of seeing
a large band of elk "60 to 100"!
on the sidehill. Examination revealed
a little elk sign along crest of
ridge just E [East] of new dam. Sign
suggested not more than 30 +/- elk.
+ these had not been down to the
flat.
Then up Burr Mine road (sp Findlay
Creek) where we found an excellent
new burn 20 +/- years grown to
willow, Ceanothus + Serviceberry. This had
been heavily browsed by elk. Saw
fresh tracks of about 6 elk on
way in.
Later went up Bromley Creek road to
strip mine there spoke to Tom
Wilson, mine Supt [Superintendant] at Granby mine.
He reported that until 2 years
ago elk were numerous around
his place but his winter had not
