136 Fast Horseback Riding
A 50 mile riding match took place
in San Francisco between Mowrey and
Smith. It was for $1000 a side, with
the condition that Each rider should
have 10 horses and be compelled to
Fast change horses, or mount and dismount
Riding in Each mile. Mowry jumped from the
ground Each time, without the stirrups.
Mowry came in 1/4 of a mile ahead in
2 hours 2 minutes 36 1/2 seconds, Smith
being in 16 seconds behind. The quickest
mile was made 2.04 Minutes and
the slowest in 3.01 minutes
