- Victoria B.C. [British Columbia] Oct [October] 23, 1938.
Breeding [underlined] The spike buck in the park
is getting a considerably enlarge-
ment of the neck but as yet
does not show a greatly enhanced
interest in the does.
Food. I offered the young buck acorns
both good + worm eaten, he
chewed both quite without
selection, spitting out the
hollow ones after a few
seconds. When offered
snow berry, arbutus, Rosa
nutkana fruits + leaves, Berberis
aquifolium, wild crabapple
+ cedar he ate both [word crossed out] all. quite
irrespective. but seemed to
prefer the snow berry + rose
fruits in that order. Ate
the cedar ravenously, +
displayed little enthusiasm
for the arbutus.
