At Round Lake a single curlew, 4 Horned
Lark, many Chondestes, Spizella passerina.
Kamloops. May 16/54. [1954]
Drove to Clinton to attend meeting of
Southern Cariboo Guides Assoc. [Association] Mr Greenlees
in the chair + 18 members present out of
a membership of 175-200.
Discussion followed the usual routine
about moose. There was general admission
that feed was poor + moose less
numerous than in 1951 which most
seemed to regard as the peak locally.
General complaint about ticks on horses
+ moose increasing steadily. Strong
feeling against failure of government to
enact legislation permitting the
taking of animals of any age.
From the tone of discussion I gather
that this group included most of the
hot heads of the area. Even so they
passed a recommendation that
a cow moose season be instituted on
a permit basis to the level of 25% of
the # of bulls taken the previous year.
They also asked for an any deer
season with a limit of two animals.
