- Diet:- 1st [first] day chopped, hard boiled egg white one feeding
2nd [second] day - 3 feedings of chopped whole h-b. [hard-boiled] egg
3rd [third] " 5 " " " " " + ant eggs.
4th [fourth] " same.
5th [fifth] " American dry chick starter with antibiotic as well
as previous diet. Important not to overfeed
or kidney trouble develops. 1/4 hd bld [hard boiled] egg for each
feeding for 10 chicks is enough.
6-12 days:- egg foot 5 times + ant eggs + chick starter 6 times
13 +/- Increase # of feedings + add a hot mash (brought
to boil) of oats, barley, peas + corn equal prop. [proportions]
+ finely chopped. Add a little crumbled dry
nettle leaves + a little finely chopped Achillea
millefolium, lettuce, spinach + any berries
in season.
At 6 to 7 weeks mature aspen leaves - young
leaves are poisonous
In Sept [September] + Oct [October] add Branches of crowberry (V. [Vaccinium] uliginosum]
+ Juniperus communis + Pinus sylvestris.
As compared to pheasants they need a
double quantity of bone meal + B complex
especially during feather development at 5-8 wks [weeks].
At 21-26 days they begin roosting, let
them do so but provide some shelter.
At 4-5 wks [weeks] remove fostermother.
At 10 days he gives 2 or 3 berries of Vacc.
vitis-idea [Vaccinium vitis-idaea] [underlined] of the previous year + dried + re soaked
to each bird. These are believed by Notini to
contain a cellulose digesting enzyme +
