Saw 2 Whales to Windward.

Bar at 12 and came to
Anchor at Fort Rupert at
8 P.M. Mr. Hunt came on Board.

Calm til noon. Weighed at
7 A.M. called at Alert Bay
at 3:30 and stood down
with a good breeze which held
all night. Passed Seymour
Narrows at 4. When below
Cape Mudge, died away calm.
Saw no Whales.

Came in Calm. Nice breese in
afternoon. At night came to
nearly abreast of Hareward

Sunday July 6
Fine. Saw 9 Whales. Got a
shot. Iron struck but did not fasten.

Monday July 7
Nearly Calm. Drifted around
between Hornby & [and] Texada Island
saw some Whales but got
No chance for a shot.

Came in with a strong N.W.
Breeze. Sailed around the lower
part of Lasquetta [Lasqueti] and up
Malaspina Strait as far as
Scotch Fir Point" where we anchored
in Thunder Bay. Saw no Whales.

N.W. Got under weigh at 4
and beat up to Indian Ranch
anchored at dark. One canoe
came alongside. No Whales.

N.W. Ran out into Gulf and
opposite Hareward. Chased
2 Whales, no chance. Beat
about all night.

Friday July 11
Worked down Gulf and at 7:30
anchored at old station. Saw
several whales but go no chance.

Saturday July 12
Beat around upper end of Bull
Passage, and Sabine Channel
and anchored at night near
where Dawson tried out Whale.
Saw 2 Whales. Chased. No chance.

Sunday July 13
Calm. 139 days out.

Monday July 14
Ran out towards Qualicum"
Saw no Whales. Ran to leeward
and of Cape Laso [Lazo]" Saw 13.
It being calm, could not get
near. Anchored in 6 fathoms

at night at Rocks near Hareward
