- Story [underlined] An old man + old woman who had not met
for years met on the street of a strange village.
The conversation, with long pauses, went like this
Why Mary its good to see ye after all these years -
Yan don't remember me Mary? I'm John Stewart
from Killicrankie, pause
Aye I ken ye well John, why when you
were a wee bit shaver I used to help yer mother
change your nappies.
Pause.
You wouldn't know the place noo Mary
its much changed O'er the years.
A prospector + his dog sat in their cabin playing
cards. A stranger enters + says. Say thats
a right smart dog of yours. Oh I don't
know about that - he's lost the last two
tricks [word crossed out] games.
Jan [January] 22/53 [1953]. Lunched with G. [George] Kenneth Whitehead, of Old House
Withnell Fold, Chorley, Lancashire. His hobby is the
Artiodactyls domestic + wild, especially deer. He is
a bachelor + gives a regular 4 hrs [hours] a night to
writing. Has a book on deer forests and
another one on the deer of the world on the
way. A decent sort, I would say about
my own age.
In the course of conversation he told me
that the original Irish Cervus elaphus [underlined] had
