  • 1 Coast Deer study. Mt. [Mount] Arrowsmith, V.I. [Vancouver Island], B.C. [British Columbia] Sept. [September] 10-11 1938 Deer tracks were noticed as high up as any vegetation extended. The highest actually seen were about 5800'. At this elevation tracks seen were those of large deer, generally bucks. At 5000' tracks of a doe and one fawn. Food plants definitely seen to be cropped were Phleum alpinum, [underlined] Mimulus Lewisii [underlined] (extensively browsed), Vaccinium ovatifolium, [underlined] Erigeron salsuginosus Same Local. [location] Oct. 6-8 [words crossed out] Sept [September] 27-28 Saw 3 bucks, all forked horns as far as could be seen. Of these one was in winter pelage another still in summer pelage. Two of these bucks were together + when disturbed made off together along the mountain side in full view for upwards of 20 minutes.
