days they pulled down 2 moose.
In winter of 1941-42 during a
period of deep snow he found
where a bull moose had been killed
by a wolverine. The wolverine had
ridden the moose until it had
torn open the flank + the moose died.
On [space left blank] he reports seeing
a bull moose down on the trail
a simply moving with ticks. He
blames ticks for many moose deaths.
Miette River to Yellowhead Pass. April 20/43 [1943]
Moose browsing all along the
river. At mile 6. dropping
counts indicated 28 elk to 5 moose
to 1 deer in River bottom, but further
up [illegible word crossed out] moose outnumbered elk
in the bottom.
A H White reports moose now
on higher levels on S [south] side of river
but cows will be down again to
calve.
Predation: April 4 [crossed out]/41 [1941] August a cow + calf elk [word crossed out] moose
came running through the cabin grounds.
Some 30 seconds behind came a
large grizzly apparently in pursuit
of the moose. Grizzly paused long
enough to rush at the warden then
proceeded in direction of moose. (See under H)
