Saw Otter + mink tracks.
May 8- [1931] raining all day. In AM. [morning]
visited Chesterman's beach again
more sandpipers than previously
4 Golden Plover.
4 Black Oyster catchers
2 Wandering Tattlers.
5 Gold finches on Island
1 Heron.
Took a pair of breeding Fox [underlined]
Sparrows in the salal along [underlined]
the beach -
Very little sign of deer.
saw Varied thrush.
In P.M. [afternoon] Took one Raven in
my trap on the point below
the house.
Saw a flock of 10 curlew
These were feeding peacefully
when of a sudden they flew
off giving frightened cries
and an adult black merlin
came along in full chase
after a flock of Sandpipers.
He missed his bird + lit
on top of a tall stub.
Skinned for rest of the
day.
Took two Norway rats on the beach.
