- too shallow along the edge of
the field, so we poled along
between the reeds and the shore
until we reached a substantial
fence sticking out of the water.
Tim [Miles Timothy Myres], by the time had rowed
off home in a rage (with bare feet - no wonder) (We were
in the bottom of the boat out of
the wind when he came down -
we didn't think he'd try the
raft in that weather, but it
didn't look so bad at the other
end of the lake.) We tied the
canoe firmly to the fence, put
on our coats, and clutching our
pillows firmly under our
arms, started creeping along the
fence, one leg on each side, until
we came to one of the teepee places
that hold up the fence. We
scrambled over these, and along
the next, until we came to a
section with a broken top rail.
By this time we were laughing
so hard that our sticking on the
fence was miraculous. After
dinner we polished the table and
burned another box of junk.
Just before dinner the lady whose
car arrived [word crossed out] we so rudely hopped
into yesterday drove by with
