Trapping. June 15/47 [1947]
Poor luck tonight we tagged 2 [male symbol]'s
+ drowned 2 [female symbol]'s. 2900 + 2901 [autopsy sheet #'s]
Breeding [underlined]: Both [female symbol]'s pregnant one with 8
foetuses 6 rt [right], 2 left + the other
with 6 foetuses, + 2 resorbing, both
in left [word crossed out] rt [right] horn.
One [female symbol] had a little blood discharging
from the vagina + the clitoris
congested, but had no free blood
in the uterus or upper vagina.
In both the foetuses are only at
the 10mm. [millimeter] stage - crown-rump length.
The ovary of 2900 had 8 large
corpora + six very small red
corpora about .75mm [millimeter] in diam. [diameter]
Are these last years? if so it
might provide an excellent way
of diagnosing age.
I think there are just the pair
of rats in this small lake of
about 5 acres.
Food:- This pair feeding largely
upon Equisetum.
Pairs [underlined] Watched another pair - presumed
to be [male symbol] + [female symbol], that came out of
a burrow under a large tree
root.
Condition:- Both the drowned [female symbol]s in good
condition.
