- Victoria B.C. [British Columbia] Feb. [February] 4/40 [1940].
Breeding On Jan [January] 29 the young fallow
doe came in heat + Sam
Smith saw one of the
coast bucks [word crossed out] deer mount her
three times. He was some
distance away + was not
certain that it was Dick.
There is the off chance that
it was Susie. However
she has shown nothing but
animosity toward the two
Fallow Does this year.
Sam [Smith] also says that
a fork coast Buck called
Speedy that they had here
4 years ago was in the pen
with the fallow does while
the fallow buck was in
a separate enclosure. The fallow
doe was on + hanging around
the buck when Speedy came
up + fought with the fallow
for several minutes. He suddenly
rushed at the fallow doe +
mounted her. She moved away but
he mounted her + served her
three times in quick succession.
Feb. [February] 5. Old fallow doe in heat this morning
Buck served her at 11:30 after 3
unsuccessful attempts. Action of doe leads to
suspect successful completion of coitus
