Diseases:- La Casse says that last summer he
despatched 3 coyote pups in one group
that were so sick with mange
as scarcely to be able to walk.
Enemies:- A few years ago a cougar
killed a sheep in the enclosure +
later killed a coyote at the sheep
carcase [carcass].
Saskatchewan Crossing May 22/45 [1945]
Frank Smith reports that in the winter
of 1943-44 here he found the newborn of a bull elk
carcase [carcass] surrounded by the remains of
3 coyotes.

Matthews express doubts - says F.S. [Frank Smith] has added 2 coyotes since he first told the tale.
In the summer of 1944 at the head of
the Red Deer he watched a large coyote
sneak up on a herd of 10 or 12 sheep
+ kill a lamb by rushing in
+ seizing it by the throat.
Vern Costella tells of seeing
5 coyotes in a circle at the base of a
tree yapping at a wolverine up the tree

Wintering:- A few coyotes wintered here but
Matthews saw no sign of killing game.
