May 10. Pulled up stakes + headed
in for Quesnel, on the
way Pat [Patrick McTaggart Cowan] shot a large
porcupine [female symbol] very black
+ in good fur. Panned
out 4 pans on 4 mile Cr. [Creek]
getting 16 or 20 colours
so ran into Quesnel to
post letters then made camp
on 4 mile. Moose + deer not
very common. Shot a groundhog
but it got down its hole
Saw a field mouse + 2
rabbits. Audubon Warblers
common, yellowthroat +
Hermit thrush.
