Journal.
Ok. [Okanagan] Falls. July 18/51 [1951]
Yesterday evening visited Ernie Smith
on his ranch s [south] of Summerland 7 mi [miles]
He tells me that the sheep range
back as far as Bald Mt. [Mountain] in the
summer + down onto the Indian
Reserve. Mr R. McLean of Ok [Okanagan] Falls
apparently part Indian tells me that the
sheep range N. [north] to the hills E [east] of
Skaha Lake + go back about 2
miles from the lake. He says that
there were only about 9 head left
when the closed season was imposed.
Dec. [December] through Feb. [February] best time to study
them.
Arose at Dawn + was in the hills
until noon + again this evening.
There does not seem to be an actual
shortage of good grass. Any scarcities
must be very local + I must
investigate in the winter.
