  • Journal. 146 Ashnola River at Forks. July 3, 1951. Arrived here in the later evening of June 30, set up a skeleton camp + went to bed. On July 1 fixed up camp + generally rested + went fishing. Party Joyce [Cowan], Self, Ann [Cowan] + Garry [Cowan]. Yesterday climbed to Flatiron from immediately behind the cabin. Saw many Callospermophilus + Marmota flaviventris + a few chipmunks 2 young rabbits. also 2 horses a sorrel + a black. On S [south] slope saw a large band of ewes + lambs made up approximately as follows: Ewes 42 yearlings 4, lambs 22 Some of the ewes might have been yearling or 2 yr. [year] rams. There are no cattle here this year as [Haliburton] Tweddle has sold his ranch to an American sindicate [syndicate]. The range looks wonderful. Willis is extending the trail + building a bridge to take cattle onto alpine range west of the head of Juniper Creek.
