  • Alces. [underlined] Head of Brazeau R. [river] [underlined] July 27/43. [1943] Moose sign moderately abundant. Census:- Saw a [male symbol] at 100 mile of Jasper Highway Brazeau Basin. [underlined] July 28/43 [1943] Census:- On Jonas Pass, 1 cow + calf., 2 bulls From Poboktan Cr. [creek] to Indian Pass 5 bulls Licks:- There is a well used moist earth lick on the bank of the creek coming down into the Poboktan from Indian Pass. About a mile from the junction. Feeding:- 4 large bulls were grazing [underlined] on the steep hillside above timberline. Same Local July 30/43 [1943] [James (Jim)] Simpson + Slim saw a large cow + calf [word crossed out] yearling about 2 miles above our camp. Some moose winter up the river but very few. Saw 2 shed antlers. Brazeau Lake Cabin July 31/43. [1943] This evening a cow + calf came to the horses salt block at the cabin. Lay down + chewed at the salt. From droppings + shed antlers apparently there is a fair winter moose population but nothing like the elk pop. [population] Isaac Cr. [creek] Aug. [August] 1/43 [1943] Moose abundant in winter + fairly common in summer. One [male symbol] seen. Lick [underlined]:- A large lick at a sulphur spring at the forks of trails to Isaac C. [creek] + Fork Cr. [creek] Kills:- a large bull dead 1940-41. rostrum gone - may be a wolf kill. Range:- In 1910[?] no moose anywhere in this country.
