- on the Nadina road.
Young John Shelford is
very interested in the birds
+ mammals + does some
amatuer [amateur] taxidermy.
He tells me he found
a least weasel dead in
the meadow + took another
in the winter. These he
sent to Dr [Rudolph M.] Anderson. He
has taken the water shrew
in his muskrat traps.
We examined burrows
of Marmota m. [monax] petrensis
but owing to the rain
the animals were not
out. He promised to get me
a couple. Foxes, coyotes,
muskrats, weasel, mink +
an occassional [occasional] fisher
are their take in the winter.
He traps up the slope of
Mt [Mount] Wells, his father
traps along toward the
mosquito hills. He
reports some Hoary marmots
on a hill between Francois
+ Ootsa. He killed one
on their farm 3 years
ago.
