Oystercatchers on Channel Islands +
scattered Glaucous winged gulls.
Deer sign fresh + abundant on
all the islands + elk sign on
Maude Island. Saw one deer, a
young doe.
In late afternoon a southeaster
came in loaded with rain + I
had a bit of a row home.
May 24/51 [1951] Q.C. [Queen Charlotte] City.
Borrowed a 2 ton Dodge truck
from Sergius de Busy the taxi
driver + drove up the road 5
miles beyond Tlell. An unpromising
day to start but it turned fine
in the late afternoon.
Saw 3 deer just south of Tlell
+ another in the muskeg 5 miles
West.
May 25/51 [1951] Port Clements
Today ran the whole length of
Moyer Lake - a beautiful lake -
the shores are grassy about half
way along with a fringe of
crabapple backed by cedar +
spruce - a little hemlock.
At the N [north] end of the lake
there is a bit of meadow
in which sedge, isoete [isoetes] + what
looks like scirpus are common
