  • Canis lupus. [underlined] the beginnings of a den. An old beaver house about 8 ft [feet] across had been opened at each end, with large (18" [inches] in diam. [diameter]) tunnels running in. We examined + photographed the den today but it shows no sign of activity during the last 3 or 4 days. Tracks Saw tracks of a wolf on a beaver dam. Food:- 5 scats all elk. late spring One elk kill found + parts of another seen. Numbers:- At Honey Moon Lake last August Wells saw 2 gray pups. There are still wolves in the region - not many but 2 or 3. Jasper. May 6, 1945 Numbers:- White states that at Decoigne the wolves did not stay last winter. In October? 4 came down the valley + 4 up + met near the cabin then 4 went each way. After that he never noted more than 4 tracks at one time. Today we found fresh tracks of a single animal moving east. On the morning before good Friday
