Banff. July 25/43 [1943]
Watched young bull browsing willows at
2nd lake.
While in Jasper Chas. [Charles] Philips told me
that near Maligne Lake 3 [written over the number 2] grizzlies had
recently run 3 moose to the lake edge.
One bear swam after one of the moose
that had taken to the water but turned
back when the other 2 bears made a
kill on the lakeshore. This occurred
in July 1943.
Licks:- A large pond (50 +/- yds [yards]) situated
just above the old warden cabin on the
Howse River has apparently been in
active use for some years. as trails
come to it from all sides, [illegible word crossed out] including
across the river.
