- Dipper
Cinclus mexicanus [underlined]
Dec [December] 30, 1935. Watched a dipper feeding
in 2 ft [feet] of water at edge of
Alta Lake. It swam about
like a duck using both wings
+ feet under water + on the
surface. Occassionally [occasionally] it floated
on the surface + sang a few
notes. Its feeding activities
were a series of quick dives
never remaining under water
more than about 15 seconds.
When shot it proved to be
a male, + even after 20
minutes in the water the
plumage was not in the least
water soaked.
Nov. [November] 5/42 [1942]. Indian River.
Several dippers active on the river, one
of these (the same one) was heard in full
song on two successive days.
