- Synaptomys.
Monashee Pass, B.C. [British Columbia] June 26, 1937
Took a single male Synaptomys
in microtus runways near
camp. This individual was
sexually mature, the testes
scrotal.
Revelstoke Mt. [Mountain] 6000'. July 4, 1937.
Last night took 3 [male symbol] synaptomys
in a colony located in
the matted grass of a
boggy alpine meadow. There
were 36 traps set in this
colony, but many were
sprung by a heavy rain
storm. All 3 were adults -
2 had the testes scrotal (scrotal
skin white - not black) the
third had them internal.
A careful examination of
cuttings showed the food
to be grass (of which the succulent
basal parts are eaten) kalmia
leaves + leaves of the large
leafed saxifrage. Summer
feces are apparently scattered
hither + thither along the
runways, + not dung piles as
is the case in the winter.
