Kidliut Bay. July 25/47 [1947] Rain + N.W. wind all day + was kept close to camp except for a hike of about 2 miles along the beach. 3 Sabine Gulls + a female king eider came into the bay. Also a large bearded seal Kidliut Bay. July 26/47 This morning we flew to Tuk [Tuktoyaktuk] + on the way photographed a large Pingo near the melage. Dr [Alf Erling] Porsild tells me that these earth mounds are formed by hydraulic pressure in cone shaped, filling, lake basins On the way back here we flew over a considerable part of the northern corner of Richards Isl. [Island] In the afternoon we went by skiff to the island about 6 miles by water north of the bay + there scouted for fox dens. It was a bitterly cold day with N.W [northwest] wind + the trip in the open boat proved to be quite miserable Very little fox sign of this years activity.
