  • Westwick Lake Tuesday, Aug. [August] 30 Weather: fine I went down to Dog Creek. The scenery was beautiful, but it was too dark to see anything past Dog Creek Airport. The road down in to Dog Creek is absolutely awful. I noticed 50-60 ducks around the edge of Alkali Lake but couldn't see what kind. Lawson Sugdon came down to see about when we were leaving. As the ranch now has a phone, we could phone him when he is needed. Westwick Lake Wednesday, Aug. [August] 30 Weather: fine AM. cloudy P.M. All Nancy [Mahoney] saw at Onward Ranch was a flock of 1000 blackbirds (mostly redwings and a few yellowheads) - probably the same flock (enlarged) that was there last time, a group of 4 sparrow hawks. At Jones Lake she saw 5 red-necked grebes, 2 with red necks, They came within 15 feet of the boat. This morning the blackbirds
