- Oct [October] 17. Came up to St [Saint] Andrews today + am
staying with Pat + Hester Henderson at
13 South-Bridge. Have had a most
interesting tour of the town seeing the
ruins of the castle + cathedral + all the
old + new parts of the university.
I am particularly struck by the
university library holdings. In separate
zoological works up to about 1925 it
is good. Since then it has slipped
badly. The periodical holdings are
weak.
The zoology staff consists of Professor
H.G. [Harold Garnet] Callan, Senior Instructor D.R.R. [David Raitt Robertson] Burt,
a Miss C. [Christina] H. Sutherland J.M. Dodd BSc [Bachelor of Sciences], J.L. Stevens + some junior staff.
The museum is full of most interesting
+ valuable material as well as great lots
of junk. [H.G.] Callan has been here only
2 years + as yet has not been able to
catch up with the library + museum
situations.
This evening there was registration of
the delegates to the Ornithologists Club Convention
+ a dinner gathering.
Oct [October] 18. This morning the Convention met in the
university + listened to several lectures [word crossed out] papers
on the changing status of certain British
birds
