Topaz. May 30/44 [1944]
Saw 2 bulls. The willows along
the sidehill grass slopes are heavily
browsed by moose + this is apparently
where the animals wintered, however
there is so small a suitable area
that I doubt if more than half
a dozen moose wintered here.
Blue Creek. [underlined] May 31/44 [1944]
Census [underlined]:- Saw single bull at Topaz.
Enemies [underlined]:- A grizzly dropping contained the
remains - including the hoof of a
young moose calf. The hoof was not
that of a stillborn.
Willow Creek. June 1/44. [1944]
On the way from Blue Creek today
we saw 8 moose - 1 seen before
the new ones were
2 [female symbol]'s with 2 newborn calves
3 bulls.
The [female symbol]'s with calves were down by
the river near Blue Creek. One could
just totter + was only a few hours
old.
Shalebanks. June 2/44. [1944]
On way down from Willow Creek saw
1 bull 2 cow + 1 not determined
Banff June 8/44 [1944]
On way down from [word crossed out] to Banff from
Jasper we saw 10 moose, 3 of them
in Jasper Park. Of the 10 4 were [male symbol]
