Westwick Lake. May 3, 1956
A very large flock of Otocoris alpestris
arcticola - 300-400 in the big field.
Savannah sparrows singing. Hundreds
of gambel sparrows in transit, Cliff
Swallows around the barn
Flickers laying 3 eggs
Goldeneye 3 eggs + 1 egg.
Crytoglaux circling loudly, 2 pairs only
Microtus in legion
Saw one flock of red wing blackbirds
+ many yellowheads already on territory
No blue winged teal in but all other species present.
Kamloops May 4, 1956
Western Kingbirds arrived today.
A few pairs of Chukars seen along the
north shore of the Thompson River.
Drove into Wells Gray Park with [Roger] York [Yorke]
Edwards and Charles Gagliardi, Saw
one large mule deer in very trim winter pelage

Travelled the road west to within a
mile of Clearwater Lake where we were
stopped by snow.
Winter range area for moose is
only about 40 sq [square] mils + on this willow
+ birch are the dominant second
