- Mustela vison [underlined]
Aug [August] 2-13. Indianpoint Lake.
Trapped [female symbol] + 3 yng [young] [male symbol]'s. Young
were in fresh dark pelage [female symbol] in
worn summer coat. Young [male symbol]'s
bigger than their mother. The
den of this family was in an
abandoned beaver house. 5
entrances had been dug into
it. All feces were in one
place nearby.
On the evening of Aug [August] 12,
we saw a [female symbol] with 2 juv [juvenile] [male symbol]'s + 2
[female symbol]'s. The [male symbol]'s were following
the mother closely + kept up a
continual subdued barking squeal.
I saw the old one quickly climb
a low bush + attempt to catch
a song sparrow. About 15 mins [minutes]
after the [female symbol] + yng [young] [male symbol]'s had passed
along came the 2 yng [young] females, following
the same route. One of them scented
us + dived under the canoe.
Later in the evening we found
these 5 mink at home in the
roof of a beaver lodge. They
had the top of this riddled with
runways. Nesting material was
shredded willow bark - Feces were
all in one place.
