1 juv [juvenile] [male symbol], 2 yearl [yearlings] 3 [female symbol]
Saw a cow + a yearling [male symbol]. The
elk in this valley seem to me
to be redder than those of the
Athabasca.
Antlers:- 6 pt. [point] - 11 lbs [pounds]

Cairn Cabin. July 11/44 [1944]
Saw 2 cows near Isaac Creek + 5 bulls
along the Cairn. All moulted off.
George Camp says that in mid winter
the elk are primarily above the
canyon.
Cairn Cabin. July 12/44 [1944].
Counted 12 bull elk today, 3 of them
with large 6 pt [point] antlers, the rest smaller.
All in full, red, summer pelage.
Cairn Cabin. July 14/44 [1944].
Saw 16 elk today in the basins N [north] of the
cabin. All were bulls + most of them
large. Several of them had their full six
points showing already.

Found remains of elk dead 1943
+ one dead 1944 - former a spike
bull without its antlers.
Southesk Lake. July 16/44 [1944].
On the way here today saw
10 bulls, 19 cows + 6 calves
Kills:- 1 yearling [male symbol] 1 age + sex unknown.
