May 2, 1955
Drove from Vancouver yesterday in 9 hours
good weather. Not much of note along the
way but large flocks of Gambels sparrows
seen at intervals along the road north of Ashcroft. Saw a yellow bellied
marmot near Cache Creek + another near
70 mile house. Westwick + Sorenson
lakes still have some ice on them
but plenty of open water.
Waterfowl seen today; approx. [approximate] numbers only.
Canvasback 16 prs. [pairs]
Redhead 8-10 prs [pairs] + extra [male symbol]'s
Shovellor 1 pr. [pair]
Pintail several pairs
Mallard " "
Scaup 10-15 prs [pairs] + about as many extra [male symbol]'s
Ruddy. 15 +/-
Bufflehead 6 prs [pairs] + 4 drakes.
Barrow's Goldeneye 10-12 birds
6 Canada Geese
Eared Grebes. ?
Rain in later afternoon + all night
May 3. 1955 Westwick Lake.
Worked around Sorenson Lake + noted
2 occupied bufflehead nests + at least one
Goldeneye nest. Spent a large part of
the day finishing the organization of
camp. Drove into town in the evening [word crossed out] afternoon
then down to Alkali Lake. At Springhouse
