- Field Aug [August] 2/44 [1944]
an almost unbroken series of
slides grown up to balsam.
+ with wild parsnip conspicuous at
this time of year.
Above the lake Sherbrooke creek
comes in from the NW [Northwest] + Miles Cr. [Creek]
comes in from the N [North]. Alplands are small
and of the interrupted rock bound
type.
Game seen 10 elk
6 goat.
Later we drove in toward Lake
O'Hara - got stuck on a hill +
walked the final 2 miles or so.
Almost all the way along the
road passes through a subalpine
spruce balsam forest with
a menziesia undergrowth. The
region is practically without
bird or larger animal life.
The only game sign seen was
one lot of moose pellets.
Even on the Kicking horse slope
the burned area here supported
almost no berry producing shrubs
A solid growth of Moniezia replaced
the mixed growth of the opposing S [South] -
facing side of the valley.
