June 19. [1929] N. [North] Thompson. Cloudy. wind
5:30 P.M.
Took 4 juv. [juvenile] groundhogs: they
were feeding in a low field
at the foot of a large talus
slope. The burrows, were
invariably in the talus.
They were very curious and
even if a bullet came
very close, would not
move until hit. No adult
animals were seen though
they were known to
inhabit the area in large
numbers.
June 20. [1929] N. [North] Thompson. Bright
Took 2 ad. [adult] [female symbol] chipmunks 137 + 138
they were eating unripe
saskatoon berries. When disturbed
they ran down into the
thick bases + blended very
well with the light + dark
patches, + relied on the density
of the brush for safety.
