Shale banks. May 17/44 [1944]
Saw a very [underlined] (naked) mangy coyote 3 miles N [north] of
town + another good one at my elk
carcass at mile 6.
Along the trail today were many coyote
droppings old + fresh + tracks almost all
the way.
George Foley [word crossed out] Fowlie tells me that he shot
8 coyote last fall + all had mange.
Burstrom shot 15 coyotes this winter
+ states that at least half of them
were mangy.
Willow Creek May 25/44. [1944]
Fresh tracks along deer creek trail but
droppings indicate fewer coyote than
wolf. Perhaps just 2 " [coyote] in district
Blue Creek May 28/44. [1944]
Two coyote working on a grizzly killed
moose. Two lots of feces 100% moose.
Topaz Shelter. May 27/44 [1944]
Fresh tracks + fresh + old feces along
the trail. About 6 feces of last autumn
consist largely of berries - apparently
cranberries.
Jasper May 5/44 [1944]
Saw a very mangy coyote at 10 mile
- Two days ago saw a moulting animal
near Shalebanks.
