Archibald's house, East side of Lake. While
trying to approach these birds they suddenly
took wing + flew into the dense evergreens
A few moments later a black merlin came
+ perched on one side of the stubs where the sapsucker [word cut off when scanned]
had been. Several robins also flew off to
the woods for shelter. These sapsuckers
were not feeding but were flying above [word cut off when scanned]
the stubs, chasing one another + occasionally [word cut off when scanned]
one would alight on a branch + [illegible word] back
for a short distance.
