Island View Beach.
Saanich, V.I. [Vancouver Island], Feb. [February] 29, 1936
1:30 to 4:30, day dull but
not raining, moderate S.E. [southeast] wind.
The salt flats were all flooded
and large numbers of ducks
were feeding on them
200 +/- Green-winged Teal
300 +/- Mallard
30+ Pintail
6 Shovellor
2+ Widgeon [wigeon]
On the adjoining open sea
were many Golden-eye
all males seen were American
- quite a number of Buffle
head, Scaup + Scoters
Two geese (Western Canada?)
were also seen.
Meadow Larks - 30 in
number, very wild. Singing
Feeding on less flooded parts
of marsh. When disturbed
they frequently lit in trees.

10 Song Sparrows
8 Western Bluebird
1 Calif. [California] Quail
1 Cooper's Hawk.
