east of here + some are killed by trains
every year. Says Ole the Bear [Westerberg] who lives
just south of Revelstoke town has pack
horses for hire as has also the local
transfer co [company]. Says further that both
moose + caribou cross the Columbia
about five miles north of Revelstoke.
July 22. 1937. Clear, hot weather. 3400 ft. [feet],
Five Perries [Peromyscus] in traps this am [morning] 4 ad [adult]/[male symbol] + 1 ad [adult]/[female symbol]. Also
caught a [male symbol] weasel in trap set in hollow cedar in which
bear denned up. This trap baited with Kipper. In
afternoon found a [male symbol] squirrel in same trap.
Skinned all morning. In afternoon photographed
bear den + set out rabbit snares + mouse traps
along road in grass below cabin. This a.m. [morning]
saw between 15 + 20 Bendire Crossbills along
trail. Took a [male symbol] bird which perched high up on
a cedar spire. Testes about this size [circle drawn]. Helped [Ian McTaggart]
Cowan catch a garter snake in bush just
below road. These snakes are very pale beneath
- pale bluish white. This makes the third snake
taken here as two were given Joyce [Cowan] by berry
pickers yesterday afternoon.
