- Valley Quail.
One of a large flock taken
Oct. [October] 10, 1935 from Broom filled
gravel pit
Crop contained
150 broom leaves
100 broom seeds.
This bird was taken at about
10 AM at the end of the
morning period of feeding.
Upon being disturbed these
birds made for the thickest
broom cover + remained there
until flushed.
Nov [word crossed out] Dec. [December] 4, 1935. Youngs Lake, V.I. [Vancouver Island]
Encountered a large covey
about 1/3 way up Mt. [Mountain] to north
of lake, on bluffs above
river. The birds were
living in a dense tangle
of broom, copper bush +
arbutus - some Jack Pine.
The ground was extensively
scratched over under the
bushes.
