  • I. McT. [Ian McTaggart] Cowan Savannah Sparrow. Oct [October] 31/1935 Stomach analysis:- Victoria area 5134. Remains of small beetle, 2 seeds. 5135 Remains of kelp flies 5146 Remains of small beetle Kelp flies 1 amphipod In migration this fall I have observed these sparrows only on the beach + immediately contiguous. They seem to be entirely, or almost entirely, insect eaters. In most cases they travel singly but in one instance - at Island View Beach, Oct. [October] 14, 1935 they were in a small flock + extremely wild. Victoria April 28/39 [1939]. Numbers of Savannah sparrows today appeared in Beacon hill Park. Cowichan Bay. July 13/40 [1940] Nest + 4 eggs sent in by Dennis Ashby. He states found another nest earlier, last egg laid May 15, first egg hatched May 26 at noon Vancouver, U.B.C. [University of British Columbia] Sept [September] 18/40 [1940] Migrating in numbers today after a 2 day storm. Mixed flocks [words crossed out] with coronata [underlined] [word crossed out]
