From the Capercaille [Capercaillie] farm we drove
to the game warden school on a beautiful
old estate of some 1500 hectares plus shooting
rights on an additional 2500 hectares.
Here we met the l/c Lambert Van Essen
+ his wife. He is a forrester [forester] + game
biologist + is in charge of the entire
operation including game farm, + warden
school.
Here we had an excellent dinner
+ stayed the night, then looked the farm
over.
The warden school has a regular
attendance of about 10 men a year
+ in addition to the subjects taught as outlined
on the syllabus they are taught the
training + care of pointers + setters (actually
each trains a pup) some elementary game
anatomy, taxidermy, identification of
birds + mammals of importance, the
care + management of pheasants, geese,
partridge, game foods, hunting
methods, including the use + training of
various types of dogs for badger, fox,
moose etc etc [etcetera]. The game farm provides
them with practical opportunities + the
hunting area with other facilities.
Care + use of firearms is also taught.
