June 12, 1941

with typical characters of
an intergrade between
coast + mule deer. Tail
with complet [complete] black dorsal
stripe but large rump
patch + shape of tail of mule deer.
Aug. [August] 9, 1941. Alta Lake.
Noticed very small fawn tracks in swamp
back of house. Deer browsing
Viburnum opulus [underlined]. in preference to
anything else. Other preferred browse
Mt. [Mountain] Ash + Rosa nootkana.
Aug [August] 29/41 [1941] Alta Lake.
Bill Bailliff reports that at the end of
May - 29-31 a doe bore twin fawns
on the small island in front of
Alta Lake station. 25 yards of
wadeable water intervened. A coyote
followed her to the waters edge
for at least 3 nights in succession.
Also reports that he has not seen
deer yarding except two that wintered
near Black Tusk. Thinks coyotes run
them out of yards but states he has
never seen an actual case of coyote
eating a deer killed by itself.
