Enemies:- Frank Wells while on the
fresh trail of a cougar found where
she had ambushed + eaten a coyote.
On another instance he watched
3 coyotes approach a sheep kill
when suddenly a cougar
sprang from the adjacent bushes
but missed its aim. He states
that in his 20 years in the park
he has seen some 10 instances
of coyote killed by cougar. In
most instances they were at
cougar kills.
Predation:- Several years ago he found
in mid summer an adult
healthy doe pulled down by one
coyote. He had disembowelled
her + had eaten about 3 lbs [pounds] of
meat from her flank though
she was not yet dead.
On another occassion [occasion] an
adult buck in October jumped
off the road embankment +
collapsed, 5 coyotes were right
on its heels + the deer was
all in.
Warden J. Macklin once had
a deer practically run over him
+ in avoiding him, collapse into
some willows. On its trail he
