Paradise Mine, Toley Cr. [Creek], B.C. [British Columbia] Aug. [August] 26, 1945
Drove down to Invermere today - dull
at start but cleared about noon +
afternoon bright with scattered clouds.
En route saw 2 cow moose.
Elk range in good condition +
animals not much in evidence
accordingly recommend that no elk be
killed in Kootenay Park this year.
Left Invermere at 4 o'clock +
drove the 19 miles to the mine
at timberline.
Timber is predominantly Lyall's
larch + balsam.

Hunted the mine basin to it head.
then climbed the n. [north] ridge + looked into
the next valley. Goat trails along
the ridge are broad + deep +
a heavy pop. [population] at some season.
Deer tracks much in evidence, some
moose tracks.
Pikas very abundant, took 2 whistler
2 ad [adult] + 1 sub ad [adult] + 2 juv [juveniles]. Microtus longicaudus. [underlined]
saw one Callosp. [Callospermophilus] took 1 Eutamias minimus [underlined]
+ 1 E. [Eutamias] luteiventris. [underlined] 1 Neosorex

Took M. [Microtus] longicaudus [underlined] 4 ad. [adults] 2 sub ad [subadults] 3 juv [juveniles]
1 E. [Eutamias] minimus [underlined] several Ochotona, 1 Zapus [underlined]
1 Peromyscus sub ad [subadult].
