- Journal.
Rose Harbour. Aug. [August] 15/46 [1946].
Traps took 1 sorex [underlined] + 3 Rattus rattus. [underlined]
Charlie [Charles J. Guiguet] had 40 traps out some 3 miles
down the coast + caught 5 Sorex [underlined] +
3 Rattus rattus. [underlined] He reports finding
bird burrows just south + east of
Moore Point + we are going over to
investigate tonight.
This morning I took a very pale
juvenile red tailed hawk + saw 2 sharp
shinned hawk juveniles.
Rose Harbour Aug. [August] 16, 1946
Spent all last night at the bird
colony in Moore Point bay. It is a
colony of Rhino [Rhinoceros] Auklets numbering
perhaps 200-300 birds. For details
see under that species. Returned to
camp at 5 o'clock in the morning
+ had about 2 1/2 hours sleep. I then
went back to photograph the colony
Missed the sun a bit but took
some shots anyway. Spent rest of
day skinning + tidying up the
outfit as [Howard] Fairbairn is supposed
to come for us tomorrow.
Birds of note 1 robin, the first
seen here + 1 spotted sandpiper. I
heard one of these three days ago but
did not note it down then.
