- Canis lupus.
again until March 31 when from 7 to
9 showed up. Very soon they
split up. He called up + shot a
lone [female symbol] on April 13, then by
watching an elk kill he shot a
male on April 20 + another [male symbol] on
April 23.
Kills. In October [Warden A.H.] White found 3 elk
kills. One of the elk had had its
flank torn + had entered the stream
+ died there. The wolves had left
it.
Jasper. May 5, 1944.
Frank Wells reports that in
December 14 wolves cleaned up an
entire horse carcass in one night.
Next day the wolves were bedded
down on a small knoll near by
+ he walked right in among them
before they were aware of his presence.
He shot 2 wolves out of the
bunch. + later shot a third.
One of these was a very old black
male.
This band staid [stayed] around all
winter + lived primarily upon
elk. He thinks they worked into
the Fortress lake country but
is not sure if the same bunch
went north down to Buffalo Prairie
