Seasonal
Movements. Today with fresh snow
on the ground it was possible
to obtain a fair picture of
deer concentrations. 90% of the
tracks seen, and all the deer
seen were within 1/2 mile
of the first lake. That is
they were in or within
1/4 mile of timber + within
1/4 mile of water and alder
groves. See maps on next
page.
Food. Saw evidence of heavy utilization
of fallen alder leaves, signs
of summer browsing on thimbleberry
Recent on quillwort Isoetes echinospora [underlined]
Berberis nervosa [underlined] and Abies grandis.[underlined]
heavy on the quillwort - see photo
Mrs. Porter reports heavy browsing
on Tulips, violets, chrysanthemum
columbine, arabis, nasturtium,
but not at all on sweet-
peas.
Stomach analysis. 71% Salal, 28% gilled
mushroom, trace of fir, moss
and dead cedar tips.
